Virginia Girls
State is sponsored by the American
Legion Auxiliary for rising high school seniors. The
week-long program is held in June on the campus of Longwood
College in Farmville. Girls State allows students from
across the Commonwealth to come together to learn the duties,
privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship.
Those selected to attend have the opportunity to participate
in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of
government. Elections are held for Governor, Lieutenant
Governor, and Attorney General as well as other offices.
